NEW MP3s - Visit our MUSIC page to hear some selected tracks from our Emo's ehow last week with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and Pong. Included is a special preview of the Nutcracker: the Chinese Dance. For those who also didn't notice, a recording of Metallica's "Blackened" from our show in KC, MO in MAY is also available.
CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL BENEFIT CANCELLATION - Apparently the Children's Hospital overbooked their event scheduled for TODAY and we reluctantly volunteered to drop off the bill. Apologies to anyone who may have gone to this expecting to see us.
PROPERGANDER'S 6TH BIRTHDAY - We been asked to play at Gallery Lombardi on SAT 11/13 in celebration of San Marcos art/music magazine Propergander. Details to follow soon...
TOUR JOURNAL ADDITIONS - OK, OK, OK... we've had more pressing issues to quell than completing our tour journal from this summer but some new chapters have been added to the saga: read all about our van dying for good, San Francisco and the fact that we never went to Montana even though Rick swears we did...

NUTCRACKER PREVIEW & SPECIAL GUEST PHIL DAVIDSON - Muppletone violinist Phil Davidson will join us mid-set on 10/25 at Emo's for special preview of our upcoming Nutcracker performances. In other news, Emo's spelled our name correctly in an email announcement for this show which has evened the score: Rank and Revue - 1, Emo's - 1. Will the tie of Austin's Rock Gatekeepers ever be broken?!?!?! Answer: There is no Dana, only Zul...

RANK AND REVUE... WRONG AGAIN?!?! - What? The Red River Rank and Revue printed erroneous information about The Invincible Czars????? :0 OMG! This has NEVER happened before. Our stature at Austin's bastion of correct grammar and rock music must be slipping. Don't believe the rumors, folks... the Invincible Czars is BOYS CLUB (we determined that girls have cooties) and our friend Tom Kimzey is now doing this all day. However, we would like to congratulate the RRRR on finally spelling our band name correctly. Way to go guys!! Red River Rank and Revue - 1, Emo's - 0.

NEW CZAR - The drum throne of the Invincible Czars has been commandeered by Tommy Holton who has forced us to turn our amps up to 11. Where ex-drummer Tom Bowman's subtle finesse emphasized our jazzier and more ethnic tendancies, Tommy's interpretations bring out the Van Halen in us. Add recent addition Willie Poland on keys and we're a much meaner "tight and silly" than ever before. Tommy's first show will be at the Red River Rock Out 10-8 at the Caucus Club in Austin (10 PM).
NEW SONG - We will debut "Gods of Convenience" at the 10/8 show as well. This is one of several tunes that have been on the backburner even before the Invincible Czars existed. "Gods of Convenience" was originally an instrumental concocted around the same time as "Forty Bucks" by our guitarist Josh Robins and Sea of Thousand drummer Keith Palumbo. The song went through several incarnations (including a mangled collaboration by the Czars' original line-up) before Josh finally simplified it back down to its basic parts, added vocals/lyrics and called it done. It has been sitting on the Invincible Czars' shelf for over 2 years along with such hibernating classics as "The Return to Mursketine", "The Stupid Sorcerer" and "The Troll".
ROCK THE NUTCRACKER SUITE - That's right: it's the ballet that your mom used to drag you to see every holiday season. Tchaikovsky wrote some fantastic music for The Nutcracker, but it's been jammed down peoples' throats for so long that it's developed a haughty, artsy-fartsy, dull image. We've reinterpretted the whole thing and will present our version during the month of December in Austin, Houston, D/FW, San Antonio, San Marcos and possibly Texarkana and San Angelo. For many of the dates, we'll be billed alongside The Golden Arm Trio and Houston's Two Star Symphony. We'll be joined by Muppletoneviolinst Phil Davidson for this event. Stay tuned...
OTHER STUFF - In other news, we will perform with Oakland CA's Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and Austin's own Pong at Emo's on 10/25. We will return to The TripleCrown in San Marcos on 10/22. We'll open Muppletone's CD release sometime in December and a tour back to the west is in the works.
